BEN L. SAMPIETRO

Ben L. Sampietro, a longtime resident of Southern Sonoma County, died in a Petaluma hospital yesterday after a brief illness. He was 86.

He was born in Italy, and came to the United States in 1913. He worked on dairy ranches in Marin and Sonoma until 1920, when he started one of his own. He retired from dairying in 1951 and spent the next 10 years as a gardener in Petaluma.

Sampietro was a member of the Sons of Italy lodge in Petaluma, the fraternal Order of Eagles and St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in Petaluma.

His wife, Liza, preceded him in death.

He is survived by two sons, Ildo and Albert Sampietro, both of Petaluma; two brothers, Frank Sampietro of San Rafael and Salvatore Sampietro of Italy; a sister, Maria Sampietro of Italy; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic church in Petaluma. A Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. tomorrow at the Parent Funeral Chapel in Petaluma. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
