DAVID H. McCLURE

David H. McClure, former West Marin rancher, died recently in El Dorado County hospital following a short illness. Funeral services were held last Thursday at Chapel of the Pines in Placerville.

McClure, 63, was born on a ranch now occupied by Radio Corporation of American in Point Reyes. He lived in West Marin until five yeas ago. McClure’s mother, the late Margaret McClure, donated McClure’s Beach to the county about 25 years ago.

McClure and his brother, the late John McClure, operated the Pierce Ranch, a 1,200-acre ranch where they had a herd of 1,000 cattle. That ranch was sold to Land Investors Research, a holding company, in 1966, and is now the subject of a condemnation suit by the government, which seeks it for the Point Reyes National Seashore.

After the sale of the ranch, McClure moved to Diamond Springs, a suburb of Placerville in El Dorado County. He worked as a bailiff in the El Dorado County courthouse.

McClure was a member of the Mother Lode Lions Club and American Legion Post 119. He was a veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Grace E. McClure of Diamond Springs; two sons, David and Dennis McClure of Diamond Springs; two stepsons, James Oswalt of Novato and Kenneth Eckstein of Placerville; a stepdaughter, Shirley Falconer of Mill Valley; two brothers, William McClure of Corte Madera and James McClure of Point Reyes, and three sisters, Elizabeth Small and Helen Driscoll of San Francisco and Annie Kilpatrick of Livermore.

The family prefers contributions to a favorite charity.
