MARY BORGIA BAIN

A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister Mary Borgia Bain of Mission San Joe, a San Rafael native and a Catholic sister for 76 years, was said Wednesday at the Holy Family Mother House in Mission San Jose in Alameda County.

Sister Bain died Feb. 16 at the age of 102. She died only 15 days before her 103rd birthday.

She was born in San Rafael, the daughter of James and Mary Bain, who were early residents of the county.

One of 10 children, she was raised in Marin and went to school in the county. When she was 17, she entered the Sisters of the Holy Faith.

She was a teacher of religious studies from 1907 to 1966 in various places.

She spent the last 17 years at the Holy Family Mother House.

Sister Bain is survived by a brother, Merton Bain of Larkspur.

Burial was at Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma.
