JOHN A. PITCHER
A memorial service for John A. Pitcher of San Rafael, a lifelong Marin resident and retired Del Monte Corp. executive, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at St. Luke’s Presbyterian Church in San Rafael.
Pitcher died March 7 at a local hospital after a long illness. He was 71.
Pitcher was born in San Rafael and graduated from San Rafael High School in 1928. He attended the College of Marin.
He retired six years ago as the export-marketing supervisor for the Del Monte Corp. in San Francisco. He worked for the company for 42 years.
He was a member of the Tamalpais Golf Club, the Sons in Retirement Branch No. 47 of San Rafael, and St. Luke’s Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Pitcher; a son, David Kimball Pitcher of Fresno; a daughter, Joan Helen Martin of Visalia; a sister, Mrs. Helen E. Halsey of Sacramento; and four grandchildren.
The family has asked that memorial gifts go to St. Luke’s Church, Hospice of Marin or the Marin Chapter of the American Cancer Society.

A Death Notice in the same paper adds that he was predeceased by a brother, C. Kimball Pitcher; he was the grandfather of Jill and Carol Martin, Lynn and Lisa Pitcher, and he was the father-in-law of Carolyn Pitcher and Fred Martin.
