J. PATRICIA McCARTHY
Private services have been held for J. Patricia McCarthy, 65, of Sausalito.
She died Sunday at her home.
Miss McCarthy, a resident of Sausalito for about 14 years, was a biology professor at the City College of San Francisco for 41 years before retiring in June 1979.
She was born in Virginia City, Nev., and belonged to a pioneer Virginia City mining family.
She moved with her family to Jerome, Ariz., as a young child and them later to Fair Oaks, Sacramento County. She later graduated from a Catholic high school in San Francisco and then from Dominican College in San Rafael. She taught at Dominican College about four years, earned a master’s degree from the University of California at Berkeley and then became a teacher at City College.
She is survived by two sisters, Betty McCarthy of San Francisco and Mary McCarthy Beltrami of Santa Rosa; and a brother, Tom McCarthy of San Rafael.
She will be buried in a family plot at Saint Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Virginia City.
