Mrs. Robbins Laid to Rest

All that was mortal of Mrs. Grace McGregor Robbins, wife of Mr. F. A. Robbins, president of the Bank of Sausalito, was laid to rest in Cypress Lawn cemetery on Monday. A very large crowd attended the funeral services which were held in N. Gray & Co.’s funeral parlors in San Francisco, Rev. Otis Ironmonger of the First Presbyterian church of Sausalito officiating.

Rev. Ironmonger, in speaking of Mrs. Robbins, said:

We are gathered together this morning to minister the last rites to this loved one of ours who has gone away. Mrs. Robbins was born in Cargill, Scotland, April 1, 1849 and departed this life April 6, 1917. She leaves behind to mourn her loss Mr. Robbins, many close relatives and a host of friends.

As a jar of roses, taken from a room leaves a fragrance behind, so Mrs. Robbins, though she has departed, will continue to live in our memories. Though surrounded with many comforts and enjoying many luxuries, she did not live a selfish life but found her chief joy in making others happy. She was large in her sympathies, broadminded in her views and public spirited in a marked degree. She loved the children and few of the boys and girls of Sausalito thee are who did not know and love Mrs. Robbins. She was always found on the right side of a campaign for civic righteousness, was a strong supporter of the Presbyterian church of which she was a member and her loss will be felt both by the town and by the church……….”

The pallbearers were Messrs. Grove Ayers, Edward Bent, A. J. Treat, C. M. Gunn, John Headley, John R. Hanify and Captain Neilson.

Mrs. Robbins was a native of Cargill, Scotland, and was married to Mr. Robbins in San Francisco in 1881 and for the past sixteen years has been a cherished resident of Sausalito. Her death on Friday morning, April 6th, was a very severe shock to all the community as she was always very active and very healthy. Early Friday morning she was suddenly taken ill and before a doctor arrived she had answered the supreme summons.

An autopsy revealed that the walls of her heart had burst.

Four years ago to the day, her sister, Mrs. J. W. Sanders, passed away in San Francisco.

She was a charter member of the Sausalito Woman’s Club and served for a short time on the local board of health.

The sincere sympathy of the community is extended to Mr. Robbins in his great bereavement.
