Gustav J. Wandtke Dies At 77

Masonic funeral for Gustav Joseph Wandtke, 77, former Mill Valley resident, will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the Chapel of the Pines at Paradise, Butte County.

Wandtke died Monday in a hospital there.

He was born in Germany. He and his wife, Frances, were married June 30, 1920 in Redwood City. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary two years ago in San Anselmo.

They moved to Sausalito in 1926 where he operated a marine machine shop at the Maden and Lewis Shipyard. They moved to Mill Valley in 1939 and lived there until moving to Paradise two years ago.

Wandtke was port captain for the A. Paladini Wholesale Fish Co. for many years. He also operated a fleet of commercial fishing boats from Seattle to San Diego.

He was a member of the Mill Valley Masonic Lodge 356 and the California Consistory, a member of the Islam Temple, AAONMS San Francisco, High Twelve Club of Paradise and Paradise Shrine Club of Ben Ali, AAONMS and Paradise Railroad Club.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Diane Riley of San Anselmo; a sister, Clara DeLong of San Francisco; a brother, Otto Wandtke of San Francisco, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Burial will be at sea.

Memorial contributions to the Shriner’s Hospital for Crippled Children would be preferred by the family.
