Century Club at Stanford and a life member of the San Rafael Elks Lodge as well as a member of American Legion Post No. 179 of San Anselmo, the Press Club of San Francisco, and Marin County Historical Society as well as medical organizations.

He long was a leader of the Marin County Historical Society and frequently authored history articles in the Independent Journal and other publications. His last writing project was the official San Luis Obispo County Bicentennial publication, “San Miguel at the Turn of the Century.”

Dr. Stanley leaves more that 40 manuscripts on various facets of his long and colorful career and his researches into history, his family said.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Bernice Campbell Stanley, of the home; a stepson, E. David Campbell of Sleepy Hollow; a sister, Emma Cook of Vallejo, and nieces and nephews. His first wife, Romaine Josephine Stanley, died in 1928.

There will be no funeral. At Dr. Stanley’s wishes, his body will be cremated and the ashes scattered at sea. The family prefers memorial contributions to any favorite charity.
