HAZEL WHELAN

Hazel Whelan, 53, of Nicasio, a former waitress at Rancho Nicasio, died today at a local hospital after an illness. Mrs. Whelan was a member of the Marin Culinary Union.

She was a native of California. She had worked at Rancho Nicasio for about 10 years before becoming ill.

Surviving are her two sons, Michael J. Whelan and Patrick Whelan, a daughter, Kathleen Whelan, and her mother, Jennie Demetriff, all of Nicasio, and a brother, John A. Loscutoff of San Francisco.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Chapel of the Hills, San Anselmo. Burial will be at Olema Cemetery. Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Chapel of Hills. The family prefers that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.

A notice in the March 19 paper states that a Mass of Christian Burial was to be held in place of the funeral service originally planned by the family. The mass was to be offered Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Nicasio.
