HELVETIA M. WALKER
Memorial services for Helvetia Maurer Walker, 73, a 61-year resident of Mill Valley, will be at 5 p.m. on Sunday at the Mill Valley Community Church.
She died at her home on Friday after a short illness.
A native of Lima, Peru, Mrs. Walker came to Mill Valley with her family as a young girl in 1919. Her late father, Louis Maurer, a furniture factory owner in Peru, retired to retire (sic) to Mill Valley.
He had visited Mill Valley during his business travels and decided to settle there because of its resemblance to his birthplace, Bex, Switzerland.
Mrs. Walker attended Old Mill School and Tamalpais High School, both in Mill Valley. She also attended the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco, later joining the George Marsh and Co. in San Francisco as a jewelry designer.
She married Horace F. Cagwin of Larkspur in 1929.
She was a member of the Mill Valley W omen’s Golf Club and the North Bay Womens’ Golf Association, which was co-founded by her late sister, Carmen Waidmann.
Mrs. Walker is survived by a son, George M. Cagwin of Mill Valley; a daughter, Louisa Cagwin of Mill Valley; two sisters, Lilly Gremminger of Twain Harte, Tuolomne County, and Sue Craik of Mill Valley; and three grandchildren.
Arrangements are being handled by Russell & Gooch Funeral Chapel in Mill Valley. The family prefers memorial gifts to the Hospice of Marin, 77 Mark Drive, Suite No. 6, San Rafael, 94903. Inurnment will be at Mount Tamalpais Cemetery, San Rafael.
