ROBERT W. CARROLL

Robert W. Carroll, longtime resident of the San Rafael area and a member of numerous local organizations, died Saturday of injuries suffered when he fell from scaffolding on a windmill in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.

Carroll, 37, was heading a crew of Navy Seabees who were repairing the Wilhelmina Windmill in the park when he fell at about 1:30 p.m. He died a short time later at San Francisco General Hospital’s emergency room.

The cause of the fall was not known.

Carroll was an electrician who worked for a San Francisco firm. He served with the Seabees on weekends.

He was born in Oakland and moved to Marin as a child. He graduated in 1960 from San Rafael High School, where he played varsity football and was a member of the track team.

He served with the Marine Corps after graduation and later joined the Seabees.

Carroll was a member of the Marin Shriners Club, Islam Temple of San Francisco, the Mill Valley Masonic Lodge, and Scottish Rite bodies. He also belonged to the Marines Memorial Club in San Francisco.

He is survived by his wife, Silva Carroll of the family home in Santa Venetia; his mother, Edna Hall of Sterling, Va.; one brother, Richard L. Carroll of Novato, and two sisters, Letha Hall of San Diego and Pamela Hall of Virginia.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Keaton’s Mortuary in San Rafael. The family prefers memorial contributions to the Shriners Children’s Hospital in San Francisco or a favorite charity.
