EUGENE H. BURNS
A funeral service for Eugene H. Burns of San Rafael will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Eversole Mortuary in Ukiah.
Burns died Tuesday in a local convalescent hospital after a long illness. He was 85.
A San Rafael resident for one year, Burns moved here from his retirement home in Santa Cruz County.
Before retiring, Burns taught school in Scotia, a Humboldt County town, for 44 years.
Burns was a World War I veteran and a member of the Fortuna Post of the American Legion. He had also been active in the California Teachers Association, the American Association of Retired People and the Felton Evangelical Free Church.
He is survived by his wife, Lucy; one brother, James J. Burns of San Francisco; and a sister, Verna G. Lodwick of San Anselmo.
The family prefers memorial contributions to the Mount Hermon Christian Conference Center, Mount Hermon, Calif. 95041, or to favorite charities.
