Stockton Tragedy Affects Local Man

Word was received here Tuesday of the death by suicide of Louis Giovannessi, of Stockton, a brother of John Giovannessi, the well know San Rafael taximan. The report revealed a double tragedy. Louis Giovannessi took his own life by shooting himself with a .38 calibre revolver, and the next morning, his wife, an invalid, passed away as a result of the severe shock.

The dead man, it is reported, had been despondent over his wife’s condition of health and the fact that he failed to secure an appointment as district deputy revenue collector. He was employed as store keeper in the government warehouse No. 3, West’s Winery. He was employed as guager (sic) during the Wilson administration. Giavannessi (sic) was 51 years of age, and his wife, formerly Miss Alice Milligan, a native of Canada, was 50. Upon receipt of the sad news, John Giovannessi left for Stockton to take charge of the funeral arrangements.
