BERTINUS O. NORBY

A funeral for Bertinus (Bert) O. Norby of Larkspur will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Marin Lutheran Church, Corte Madera.

Norby, 91, died Friday in a local convalescent hospital.

He was born in a sod hut near Grand Forks, N.D. He graduated from Moorhead State College.

During World War I, he served in the Army.

He was a school teacher and school superintendent in Minnesota and served on the state Board of Education.

He was one of the organizers of Land O’Lakes Inc. and served as the first manager of the firm’s plant in Thief River Falls, Minn. He started Minnesota’s first commercial turkey hatchery and processing plant. In 1963 he retired as field director of the company and moved to Larkspur.

He was a member of the Council of Boy Scouts in Minnesota, the American Legion and Rotary. He belonged to the Marin Lutheran Church. He also was active in Whistlestop seniors programs.

He is survived by a daughter, Ione Reinertsen of Ross, four grandchildren, and a great-grandson. Friends may call for visitation between noon Sunday and noon Monday at Keaton’s Mortuary, San Rafael. The family prefers memorial contributions to the Marin Lutheran Church or Whistlestop Senior Center, San Rafael.

A Death Notice in the same paper mentions his late wife, Ida T. Norby, and adds that he was survived by three nephews.
