MISS EMELINE CHASE

St. John’s Church, Ross, was the scene last Monday of the final rites for Miss Emeline Chase, pioneer resident of California and Marin County, who passed away at her Ross home after a brief illness at the age of 87.

Active until the last, the Larkspur and Ross pioneer, who crossed the plains by covered wagon when she was five years old, was an ardent member of St. John’s Church. Only last week she had taken part in the bazaar for Christmas benefit which the build of St. John’s sponsored.

Miss Chase, whose grandfather founded Kenyon College in Ohio, and whose father was an Army chaplain at Alcataz for many years, is survived by three nieces, Mrs. Truxton Beales, of Washington, D.C., Grace Kellogg, of Pasadena, and Beatrice Howitt, of New York, and one nephew, Frank Kellogg, of Oakland.
