Death Ends Brilliant Business Career of Harry Joseph Moore

Harry Joseph Moore, 69, member of an old Marin family, died last Thursday in a San Francisco hospital after an illness of three months.

Mr. Moore was a son of the late Hiland Moore of San Rafael. He was born in Oakland, but spent his boyhood in San Rafael, later removing to Ross. He was associated with his father in the furniture business in San Francisco for several years before engaging in the retail furniture business, which led to his establishing the first furniture exchange in San Francisco in 1915, from which arose the mammoth Western Furniture Exchange and Merchandise Mart built on upper Market street in 1936, of which institution he was president at the time of his death.

Many boyhood friends and associates here mourn the sudden end of a brilliantly successful career.

Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Ethel N. Moore and two daughters, Jean (wife of Dr. W. Scott Polland) and Mrs. Marian Costigan, all of Ross.

Private funeral services were held at San Anselmo on Saturday of last week.
