Rev. FRANCIS J. SCANLON
A Mass of Christian Burial for the Rev. Francis J. Scanlon, former associate pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Mill Valley, will be said at 9 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Cathedral, San Francisco. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma.
Visitations will be on Wednesday at McAvoy-O’Hara Co., San Francisco.
Scanlon, 64, died on Wednesday at Morongo Valley, San Bernardino County. He had been director there for the past two years of St. Michael’s, a retirement home for priests.
Scanlon was a native of Berkeley. He graduated from St. Joseph’s Parish School and St. Joseph’s Seminary in Mountain View and from St. Patrick’s Seminary in Menlo Park.
He was ordained in 1942.
Scanlon served at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church from 1961 to 1968. He also served Roman Catholic parishes in San Francisco and Oakland and as the chaplain at Modesto State Hospital. He was the state chaplin of the Knights and Ladies of St. Peter Claver.
