BESSIE M. WALSH

Graveside services for Bessie M. Walsh, 92, a former assistant postmaster in Mill Valley for 25 years, will be on 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mount Tamalpais Cemetery in San Rafael. She died on Friday at a local convalescent hospital after a long illness.

A native of Kansas, she lived in Chicago, New York and Hawaii with her late husband, Capt. Michael J. Walsh, an Army officer, who was killed in action during World War I.

She settled in Mill Valley in 1919 with her children.

She was the city’s assistant postmaster between about 1925 and 1950. She has been active in women’s business and professional clubs and other local organizations.

Mrs. Walsh is survived by a son, Robert J. Walsh of Mill Valley; two daughters, Catherine E. Richardson of El Toro, Orange County, and Eleanor M. Young of La Jolla; a sister, Delphia A. Coan of Mill Valley; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation will be held at Russell & Gooch Funeral Chapel in Mill Valley until 10 a.m. Tuesday. The family prefers memorial gifts to a favorite charity.
