Dr. JOHN SOWDEN Sr.
Inurnment for Dr. John R. Sowden Sr. of Sonora, father of John R. Sowden Jr. of San Rafael, will be at Mountain Shadows, Sonora.
Dr. Sowden, 75, died Wednesday in Sonora after an illness.
He practiced dentistry in San Francisco for many years and was know for his research in remineralization. He was a past president of the San Francisco Dental Association.
Dr. Sowden was a graduate of the University of the Pacific College of Physicians and Surgeons, San Francisco, and was as assistant professor of children’s dentistry at the University of Pacific School of Dentistry.
He served as a dentist in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was a member of the American Legion.
Surviving, besides his son, are three brothers, Ernest and Eugene Sowden of San Francisco and Richard Sowden of Petaluma; and a sister, Eleanor Hill of Lake County.
The family prefers that memorial contributions be made to the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry, San Francisco.
