DONALD S. McGILLIS
Donald S. McGillis Sr., a resident of Novato, died Saturday in a local hospital after a long illness. He was 81.
A native of Michigan, he was a retired construction estimator and last worked for 25 years with the Dinwiddie Construction Co. in Marin County.
McGillis was a member of the Zane Irwin Post 93 of the American Legion.
He was survived by his wife, Grace McGillis; a son, Donald S. McGillis Jr.; and five grandchildren.
A funeral will be held for him at 10 a.m. Thursday in Our Lady of Loretto Church in Novato. He will be buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma.
The family prefers that memorial contributions be made to the Babcock Foundation in San Rafael.

The May 28th paper also ran an obit and death notice; he was survived by four grandchildren, Jillia Franzi, and William, Mark and Michele. His middle initial is F. and not S. in these notices. He settled in San Francisco in 1920 and worked as a general contractor; he last worked for 10 years with Dinwiddie Construction. Following retirement at age 72 he sold his Larkspur home and moved to the Valley of the Moon in Sonoma, and later lived in a convalescent hospital in Terra Linda. He served in World War I with the U.S. Marine Corps in the Virgin Islands and Haiti.
