ELEANOR B. SMALE
A memorial service for Eleanor Brooks Smale, a former resident of Belvedere and Tiburon, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. John’s Chapel, Monterey.
Mrs. Smale, 64, died at her home in Pebble Beach Monday after a long illness.
She was the wife of Bill Smale, president of Bill Smale Sale Management, which handles sales of quarter-horses, Arabian horses and other breeds in California and 11 Western states.
Mrs. Smale was vice president and secretary of the firm.
She was born in Winnetka, Ill., and lived there until 1935 when she moved with her family to La Jolla.
She studied interpretative dancing with Alicia Pratt of Chicago and danced with a troupe at the World’s Fair in Chicago in 1934. After moving to La Jolla she taught interpretative and ballroom dancing for several years.
She was a past president of the Senior Women’s Golf Association of the Monterey Peninsula Country Club, a member of the Monterey County Braille Transcribers Association and a communicant of St. John’s Chapel, Monterey.
Mrs. Smale had been a resident of Marin from 1960 to 1972 and had lived in both Belvedere and Tiburon.
Surviving, besides her husband, are two sons, T. William Smale of Tokyo, Japan, and Thomas Hofeller of Claremont, Los Angeles County; two daughters, Katherine Moore of Salinas and Margaret Shakespeare of San Diego; a stepson, John N. Smale of San Diego; two brothers, Henry Tracy Brooks of Julian, San Diego County, and Thomas L. Brooks of La Jolla; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Burial will be at Eternal Hills, Oceanside. The family prefers that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Monterey Peninsula, 8900 Carmel Valley Road, Carmel Valley.
