OAKLAY J. OLSON

Oaklay J. Olson, a resident of Novato, died Tuesday of a sudden illness in a local hospital. He was 59.

A native of Turlock in Stanislaus County, he moved to Novato in 1959.

For the last two years, he owned and operated the Petaluma Golf Center which has a driving range and miniature golf course.

He was a custodian for the Novato School District for 10 years before buying the golf center.

He was a member of the Lucas Valley Community Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars chapter in Turlock.

He is survived by his wife, Marjean Olson of Novato; four sons, Oaklay Olson Jr. and Monte Olson of Novato, Gary Oaklay of Rohnert Park, and Garland Oaklay of Penngrove; a brother, James Olson of Turlock; seven sisters, Helen Johnson of Turlock, Mable Johnson of Modesto, Lilly Christiansen of Modesto, Lorayne Stafford of Modesto, Lauretta Smith of Oakland, Marjorie Daley of Jacksonville, Ore., and Marlene Jerner of Turlock; his mother, Hildur Olson of Turlock; and five grandchildren.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Allen Mortuary in Turlock. He will be buried at Turlock Memorial Park Cemetery.
