ROBERT ELLWOOD
Funeral is pending at the Eggan and Lance Mortuary in Santa Rosa for Robert Ellwood who collapsed and died about 7 a.m. today shortly after arriving for work at the Novato Advance where he was employed as shop foreman. He was 50.
Cause of death is pending an autopsy. A fellow worker found Ellwood unconscious and summoned the paramedical crew of the Novato fire department but they were unable to revive him.
Ellwood was born August 5, 1927 in Petaluma and grew up there. He had been employed at the Advance since 1957.
He had been active in Boy Scouting for the past several years and was also an avid abalone hunter and motorcyclist. He and his wife, Nelda (Nettie), spent most vacations motorcycling all over Northern California and the Sierras.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three children, Nancy, Robert and David, all of the family home in Rohnert Park; his mother, Elsie Wallace, of Petaluma, and a brother, Harold Ellwood, also of Petaluma. Another brother, Joseph Ellwood, fire chief of Petaluma, died last August of an unexpected heart attack.
He was a veteran of World War II and served in the South Pacific with the Sea Bees.
