LEROY J. WANLASS

Funeral was held yesterday at the Church of Latterday Saints here for Leroy J. Wanlass who died Saturday at the U. S. Public Health Services Hospital in San Francisco. He was 73.

Wanlass was a retired Air Force lieutenant colonel and served in the Air Force 34 years. He first enlisted in 1940 at Fort Lewis, Washington, and he retired in 1964 from Hamilton Air Force Base. He had been a resident of Novato since 1951.

In 1968 he earned a bachelor’s degree at the University of San Francisco. After his retirement he worked six years in the social security office for the Department of Health, Education and Welfare in San Francisco.

He was a member of Sons in Retirement, the Marin Chrysanthemum Club, the Marin Power Squadron and the Lloyd Andrews Hamilton Post No. 540 of the American Legion.

Wanlass also served as president of the Marin County chapter of the Reserve Officers Association and of the Petaluma Organ Club. He was an elder in the second ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Novato.

Surviving are his wife, Mary S. Wanlass, of Novato; a daughter, Mary Joan Marley, of Twin Falls, Idaho; two brothers, Sylvang Wanlass of El Monte, Los Angeles County and Floyd Wanlass of Richfield, Utah; three sisters, Zona West of Paradise, Butte County; Marie Hogan of Burbank and Thelma Myer of Richfield, Utah; and six grandchildren.

Burial was at San Francisco National Cemetery at the Presidio with the Redwood Chapel handling the arrangements.
