JAMES COCHRANE Of Pioneer Marin Family Dies

Funeral services for James W. Cochrane Jr. of Eureka, San Rafael native and member of a pioneer family here, were held Wednesday in Eureka under auspices of Sempervirens Lodge 552, F & AM.

Cochrane fell dead of a heart attack while hunting in the Trinity Alps above Weaverville last Saturday. He was 56.

Cochrane was the son of James W. and Lisbeth Atwater Cochrane. He grew up in San Rafael and lived here until 1936, when he moved to Eureka, where he was employed by Pacific Gas and Electric Co.

He was first watchman of shepherds of Azalea Shrine 47, white Shrine of Jerusalem; past master of Sempervirens Lodge 552, F & AM; past high priest of Humboldt chapter 52, Royal Arch Masons; past illustrious master of Pacific Council 37, Royal and Select Masters; past patron of Camellia Chapter 63, Order of Eastern Star, and generalissimo of Eureka Commandery 35, Knights Templar.

He was also president of the Eureka Library Board.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Louise M. Cochrane; two daughters and a son, Mrs. Frank Miller of Layton, Utah; Mrs. Bill Wright of Eureka and James W. Cochrane III of Loleta, Humboldt County; three sisters, Mrs. Cecil Coleman and Mrs. Harry Barbier Sr. of San Rafael and Mrs. Sherwood Halsey of San Anselmo, and 14 grandchildren.
