JOHN NUNES Killed In Motorcycle Accident

John Nunes, 22, employed as an auto mechanic, at Bianco’s Garage, was thrown from a motorcycle and instantly killed on Sunday morning two miles east of Tracy. His neck was broken. Vasco Bettencourt, who was on the motorcycle with Nunes, was also thrown, but escaped with a number of severe cuts and bruises.

Nunes and Bettencourt were members of a party of motorcyclists who left San Rafael early Sunday morning for a trip to Yosemite National Park. Two miles east of Tracy several of the machines are said to have become tangled in the heavy traffic, that ridden by Nunes and Bettencourt being hit by one of the others and knocked from the highway. Nunes was dead when others in the party reached him. Bettencourt was given first aid at Tracy. The remains of Nunes was brought to San Rafael Sunday, and the funeral was held on Wednesday morning at 9:30 o’clock at St. Raphael’s church.

Nunes was a native of Marin county, where he had always resided. He is survived by a widow and young child; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Manuel Nunes, and two brothers.

Beautiful floral offerings were testimonials of the esteem in which the young man was held. His fellow workers were pall bearers and the members of the S.E.S. drill team of which he was captain formed an honorary guard. The members of the I.D.E.S. and the U.P.E.C. to which societies he belonged, were also in uniform and turned out in a body.
