WILLIAM PERINONI
Mass of the Resurrection for William Perinoni, a tugboat captain on San Francisco Bay for some 35 years, will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Out Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Mill Valley. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery, San Rafael.
Perinoni, 84, died Sunday in a San Francisco hospital after a long illness.
He was born in San Luis Obispo, one of 11 children, and left home at age 17 to work on the fishing fleet in the Bering Sea off Alaska.
Returning to California, he began working on tugboats in San Francisco Bay and joined the Berkeley Transportation Co. in the mid 1920s.
He retired from that company about 1961 after some 35 years, much of that time spent as a tugboat captain in charge of towing barges laden with goods across the bay.
Perinoni, who lived in San Francisco during most of his years with Berkeley Transportation, moved to China Camp and lived there for about 10 years before his retirement in 1961.
He and his wife, Vera, then moved to El Monte, Los Angeles County. Mrs. Perinoni died in 1963.
After his wife’s death, Perinoni lived in San Francisco except for three years during the late 1960s when he lived in Mill Valley with his brother, John.
In addition to his brother, he is survived by two sisters, Lucy Strider of Fort Bragg and Minnie Edson of Mount Shasta, and many nieces and nephews.
Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. tomorrow at Russell and Gooch Funeral Chapel, Mill Valley. The family prefers memorial contributions to the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Building Fund or a favorite charity.
