ETHEL M. SHAPIRO

A private family service has been held for Ethel M. Shapiro of Mill Valley. Mrs. Shapiro died Thursday, Dec. 17, 1987, at the Redwoods Retirement Center . She was 97.

Mrs. Shapiro was born in San Francisco and had lived in Mill Valley for 60 years. She was a long-time member of the Outdoor Art Club in Mill Valley.

She is survived by two daughters, Enid D. Shapiro and Janet W. Upham, both of Mill Valley; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Her husband, Elmer M. Shapiro, a former Mill Valley city councilman, died in 1948.

Her family asked that memorial contributions go to the Redwoods Retirement Center Fund, 40 Camino Alto, Mill Valley, 94941, or a favorite charity.

Burial was at Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery in Colma.

A Death Notice in the same paper adds that she was the grandmother of Nancy Upham Louth of Lee Vining, CA and Benjamin P. Upham III of Spokane, Wash., and the great-grandmother of Franklin Upham and Daniel Louth.
