Death Summons Edward Freitas

Death summoned one of Marin County’s young and promising citizens last Saturday, when the trail of life ended abruptly for Edward W. Freitas, when he was but 34 years of age.

He passed away at Ross Hospital, where he was being treated for a complaint that had endured for several years, with fatal complications developing during the past few months.

Hundreds of relatives and friends attended the funeral services held last Tuesday morning from the Keaton Mortuary, thence to St. Raphael’s Church, where a requiem Mass was said. Entombment followed in the Mount Olivet Mausoleum. Monday evening Rosary was said at the funeral parlors.

Edward Freitas was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. M. T. Freitas, Marin County pioneers who were prominent in ranching and business in this county. He was born in Marin County.

He first attended the parochial school in San Rafael; stepped up rapidly through the former Mount Tamalpais Military Academy here, and graduated from St. Mary’s College in Oakland. Reaching out for still higher education, Edward attended and graduated from Notre Dame with a bachelor of arts degree.

At the time of his death young Freitas was a member of the staff of the San Rafael Land and Title Company.

Left to mourn his passing is his wife, Frances Freitas; three children, Janice, Elaine and Judith Freitas; three sisters and three brothers – Mrs. William Crane, Mrs. Rose Rose, Mrs. Helen Tichenor, Manuel T. Freitas, Carlos R. Freitas, Louis G. Freitas, Walter F. Freitas.

Mrs. Freitas was a past president of the St. Raphael’s Council No. 10, Young Men’s Institute.
