BARBARA ATKISSON
A memorial service was held Friday at the Community Congregational Church of Tiburon for Barbara Atkisson who died last week at her home at 45 Eagle Gap Court following a lengthy illness. She was 63.
A native of Fresno, she had lived in California all her life and was the widow of James Atkisson. She came to Marin in 1955 and made her home in Mill Valley.
In the late 1950’s she was a Marin reporter for the old San Francisco News Call Bulletin and also worked as a free lance feature writer for the Mill Valley Record. Mrs. Atkisson also operated an advertising business.
She was a member of the church for the Fellowship of All Peoples in San Francisco.
Surviving are her mother, Frances B. McElroy of Greenbrae; a son, John M. Atkisson of Washington, D.C.; two daughters, Brooke Atkisson and Erica W. A. Youens, both of the Novato home, and two grandchildren.
Memorial contributions to cancer research organizations are preferred by the family.
