MYRTLE D. ENSIGN, 83, ex-school board member
Myrtle D. Ensign, retired Marin County teacher and onetime member of the San Rafael Board of Education, died yesterday at a Sonoma convalescent hospital. She was 83.
Mrs. Ensign, a Marin native, earned her teaching credential at San Francisco Normal School, the forerunner of San Francisco State University. She taught for many yeas in schools in Belvedere and Nicasio. She served on the school board in the late 1940’s.
After her retirement, Mrs. Ensign lived in Petaluma and then moved to Sonoma four years ago. She was the wife of the late Glenn Ensign.
Mrs. Ensign was a member of the Tamal Rebekah Lodge of San Anselmo, the Main Parent-Teachers Association, Marin Mineral Society, Marin Orchid Society, Marin Garden Society, Marin Fuschia Society, the Corona Club of Petaluma and the Audubon Society.
She is survived by a son, Richard G. Ensign of Platte City, Mo.; three sisters, Ellen Mulliken of San Mateo, Mary Crane of Petaluma and Harriette DeRidder of Oakland, and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Williams and Heffernan Mortuary, San Rafael. Private inurnment will be at Cypress Hill Memorial Park, Petaluma.
Contributions may be made to the Redwood Empire Heart Association.

A Death Notice in the same paper adds that she was the grandmother of Bonnie, Tom, Pat, Jan and Andrew Ensign.
