PETER C. PETERSEN, 88, a butcher for 50 years

Peter Christian Petersen, retired Petaluma butcher, died yesterday at a local convalescent hospital after a long illness. He was 88.

A native of the Isle of Fohr, Germany, Petersen came to the United States in 1905, settling in Penngrove. He had worked as a butcher for more than 50 years.

Petersen operated the Penngrove Meat Market from 1928 until his retirement in 1965. He was the husband of the late Magda Petersen.

Petersen had been an active member and past president of the Hermann Sons Lodge of Petaluma. He recently had been honored as the oldest living past president of any lodge in California.

He is survived by a son, James F. Petersen of Petaluma; two daughters, Marjorie Kram of Placerville and Lorraine E. Cunningham of Napa; two sisters, Sophie Christiansen and Johanna Paulsen of Isle of Fohr; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the Parent Funeral Chapel, Petaluma. Private inurnment will be at Cypress Hill Memorial Park.
