PAUL JAMES JARRETT

Paul James Jarrett, retired Army colonel and Petaluma teacher, died yesterday at a local hospital after a short illness. He was 64.

A native of Honolulu, he was reared there and graduated from University of Hawaii. He had served 20 years in the Army and had been instructor of the infantry school and comptroller at Fort Benning, Ga.

After his retirement at the rank of colonel, he taught at St. Mary’s School in Gilroy. For the past 12 years he had been a teacher and vice principal at St. Vincent’s Elementary School, Petaluma.

Jarrett and his wife, Marjorie, had lived in Santa Rosa and Sebastopol before moving to Petaluma two years ago.

Jarrett was a member of the Retired Officers Association, St. James Catholic Church, board of regents for St. Vincent’s High School, the Marian Visitors of Santa Rosa and Sebastopol and the Parents and Friends of St. Vincent’s Schools.

He is also survived by three daughters, Kirsten List of Sebastopol, Susan Alvarez of Portland, Ore., and Karen Jarrett of Denver, Colo.; two stepdaughters, Catherine and Colleen Gleasure of Petaluma; two stepsons, Lt. Col. Nick Lockard of Randolph Air Force Base, Tex., and Don Lockard of Cape Kennedy, Fla.; a sister, Genevieve Jarrett of Berkeley; two brothers, Peter and Robert Jarrett of Berkeley; and eight grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Vincent DePaul Church, Petaluma. Recitation of the Rosary will be at 8 p.m. tomorrow at the Parent Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to the St. Vincent’s School Fund.
