HENRY M. JONAS
Henry M. Jonas of San Rafael, an attorney who practiced in San Francisco, died yesterday at his home following a lengthy illness. He was 74.
Jonas was born in Frankfurt, Germany, and came to the United States and to California in 1936. He resided in San Francisco before moving to Marin 10 years ago.
Jonas was honored two years ago by the German government for his efforts in assisting illegitimate children fathered by American service men stationed in that country. He received a medal for helping to trace the fathers of many youngsters and get them to support their children.
He was a member of the San Rafael Elks Lodge, the California Bar Association and the Lawyers Club of San Francisco.
Jonas is survived by his wife of 15 years, Carla Jonas of the family home, and a sister, Gerda Opper of San Jose.
His funeral will be Monday at 11:30 a.m. at Keaton’s Mortuary.
Entombment will be in Mount Tamalpais Cemetery.
