ROBERT L. GROUND
Robert L. Ground of Novato, retired ranger with the National Forest Service, died yesterday at home after a long illness.
Ground, 85, was born in Oklahoma and grew up on a ranch near Las Vegas.
He served with the Army in France during World War I and then went into the forest service, which was in its infancy at the time.
He was a district ranger at the Tres Piedras District of the Carson National Forest and in the Pecos District of the Santa Fe National Forest, both in New Mexico. He retired in 1955 after 38 years with the forest service.
After retirement, he lived in Tesuque and Santa Fe, N.M., and moved to Marin three years ago.
He was a member of the Bent Lodge of the Masons in Taos, N.M.
Surviving are his wife, Pauline, of Novato, a son, Robert L. Ground of Novato, and two grandchildren.
Funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Keaton’s Chapel of Marin in Novato. Burial will be at Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe.
