Death Calls For Expert Rifle Shot

Charles H. Cate passed away last Friday at his home here, 217 E street, after a brief acute illness from which he had been suffering intermittently for the past two or three years. He was 64 years of age.

Some years before his retirement from active pursuits, Cate was a powder tester for several large powder manufacturies. At one time he was employed at the powder factory on the outskirts of San Rafael. He was known as an expert rifle shot, and in his life time had won many medals for his marksmanship. The deceased was a member of the Lincoln Gun Club of San Francisco. He won a championship medal at the Mid-Winter Fair in San Francisco.

Cate is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mollie Cate, and he was the uncle of Fred Scheuer. The funeral was held Monday, with services at Miss Eden’s Parlors on C street, and burial in Mount Tamalpais cemetery.
