Thomas A. Lightfoot Succumbs
Thomas A. Lightfoot, retired Marin County sheriff’s lieutenant, died yesterday in Wilmington, Los Angeles County. He and his wife, Helen, were visiting relatives when he suffered a heart attack.
Lightfoot served more than a quarter-century in the sheriff’s department. He retired in 1972 as lieutenant in charge of the patrol division. He was president of the Marin County Retired Employees Association, and also was a member of the Marin County Sheriff’s Association and of Sons in Retirement.
He was born in Iowa, and moved to Marin County in 1940. During World War II, he served in Europe with the Army, in intelligence and in the 101st Airborne Division.
He also is survived by one son, James B. Lightfoot of Sacramento; four daughters, Janice McCray of Novato, Debbie Hernandez of Alaska, Marie Brewster of Portland and Kathleen McClain of Sacramento; several brothers and sisters, and six grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow in Keaton’s Mortuary, San Rafael, followed by burial in Shiloh Cemetery, Windsor, Sonoma County.
The family prefers contributions to the Heart Fund.
