FREDERICK HELBERG

Frederick Charles Helberg of Sonoma, a former San Rafael resident, died yesterday in a Martinez hospital. He was 82.

He was a native of San Francisco and was reared in Sonoma where his parents were early-day fruit ranchers. He moved to San Rafael 32 years ago, then returned to Sonoma in 1972.

Helberg was a wholesale grocery salesman until his retirement in 1964.

He served overseas in the Army in World War I and was a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars, Tamalpais Post No. 72 of San Rafael.

Helberg is survived by his wife, Bernice, of the family home; a daughter, Letty Dell’Era of San Rafael; two sons, Frederick C. Helberg Jr. of Pleasant Hill, and Lloyd Helberg of Forest Knolls; a sister, Marie Pinelle of Sonoma, 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in San Rafael.

The Tamalpais Post of the VFW will hold a memorial service at 8 p.m. tomorrow at Keaton’s Mortuary, San Rafael.

Burial will be in Mount Tamalpais Cemetery.
