MARGARET FINNEGAN
A Mass of Christian Burial for Margaret (Peggy) Finnegan was held yesterday at Nazareth House Chapel, San Rafael. Burial was at Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma.
Mrs. Finnegan, 97, died Thursday at the Nazareth House rest home after an illness.
A native of Ireland, she emigrated to California when she was 18, and lived most of her life in San Francisco. She moved to the San Rafael rest home about 10 years ago.
In an Independent-Journal interview last year, Mrs. Finnegan recalled that she and her late husband, James, took in 150 homeless persons after the 1906 earthquake. They set up their dining room table in the basement and fed the refugees for several days.
She is survived by four daughters, Anne C. Wuesterfeld of San Mateo, Genevieve Barrett, Marion McCarthy and Dorothy Risso, nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
