E. A. CHAPMAN

A private funeral for Edward A. Chapman of San Rafael has been held in San Rafael with burial in Mount Tamalpais Cemetery.

Chapman, 85, died Monday in a local hospital after a lengthy illness.

He was born in New York and lived there until about 1925 when he moved to San Francisco. In New York he worked for the water company and after coming to California was associated with the Colson Equipment Co. He had been retired a number of years.

He and his late wife, Helen W. Chapman, made their home in San Rafael for many years. Chapman returned to San Francisco for a time after her death and then came back to Marin about eight years ago.

He was a member of the San Rafael Elks Lodge.

He is survived by two sons, Jack Chapman of San Mateo and Irving Chapman of San Rafael, six grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

A Death Notice in the same paper names his grandchildren: Mrs. Thomas Burford of Novato, Mrs. Arthur Lafranchi of Petaluma, Irving D. Chapman Jr. of Novato, Richard E. Chapman of Larkspur, Steven Chapman of Foster City and Bruce R. Chapman of San Jose.
