In Memoriam

On Tuesday, Sept. 8th, a large cortege of the sorrowing relatives and friends of the late Mrs. F. B. Mathias, beloved wife of F. B. Mathias, and affectionate sister of A. F. Silveira, followed her remains from the funeral parlors of Stephen Eden on Fifth Street, to St. Raphael’s church, where they attended a solemn requiem mass for the repose of her soul. After the mass the column of vehicles slowly made its way to Mt. Olivet Catholic cemetery. The last services were held at the grave, the grief-stricken relatives reluctantly bidding farewell to all that was mortal of wife and sister. A mound piled high with a profusion of beautiful floral emblems, testimonials of sincerest sorrow and sympathy, the last loving tributes of those who knew and loved her, is the last memory of the final parting.

Mrs. Mathias was a young woman of very lovable character. She had been seriously ill a few months before and did not recover as was expected. The old trouble returned recently and she was hurried to a San Francisco hospital in a final effort to save her. It proved, however, that the first illness had made such inroad upon her constitution that she lacked the vitality necessary to insure a successful outcome of the second treatment.

Mrs. Mathias resided, with her husband and brother, on the Miller Ranch. Everything that love and anxiety could suggest, was done by both for her comfort and relief. No expense or trouble was considered if only she might be spared to them, but she answered the final summons on Saturday morning, Sept. 5, 1914.

She leaves to mourn her passing, a venerable father in her old home, a husband, and several brothers and sisters.
