ALBERT MADDALENA
Funeral for Albert A. Maddalena, retired carpenter and gardener, will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the Sorensen Funeral Home, Petaluma.
Maddalena, 77, died Saturday at a Santa Rosa hospital after a short illness. He was born in Petaluma and reared on the family ranch on Adobe Road.
Maddalena attended St. Vincent’s schools and as a young man went to Alaska as a commercial salmon fisherman. On his return to Petaluma, he worked for Petaluma Poultry Producers.
Maddalena had worked most of his life as a journeyman carpenter employed by various contractors. After his retirement 20 years ago, he turned his gardening hobby into an occupation and was employed part-time by local nurseries.
Maddalena was past-president of the Petaluma Garden Club, the Petaluma Golden Agers and was a former member of the Penngrove Grange. He also had operated a poultry ranch most of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie; a daughter, Ilene Gillespey of San Rafael; two sons, Bob Maddalena of Petaluma and Albert Maddalena of Napa; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Recitation of the rosary will be at 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
