Palmer’s Korean Cook Drowned In River
Bong Suk Hahn, Korean cook for the family of General Manager W. S. Palmer, of the Northwestern Pacific Railroad, was drowned last Thursday afternoon in the Russian river at Rio Nido, where the Palmers have a summer cottage.
Hahn had been warned to refrain from going in the river, as it was feared that he was not a good swimmer. His enigmatic remark to the children as he left the cottage with his bathing suit: “Maybe I get drown; maybe I not come back,” engenders the suspicion that his drowning may not have been accidental, as the verdict of the coroner’s jury read. The body was recovered by dragging the river, 15 feet deep at that place.
