Death of Old Pioneer

On Tuesday morning, Mrs. Rachael Morton, an old pioneer woman of this city, passed away at her home at the age of eighty years. She leaves many friends who will remember her as a good Christian lady and a devoted mother, who was always willing to do her part in this life without a word of complaint. The funeral will be held this morning (Thursday) from the Methodist church.

Mrs. Morton was the daughter of Captain Cotton of Agusta, Maine, and was born in that city. Soon after her birth, the family moved to Massachusetts. Thirty four years ago she came to California with her husband, David Morton, and four years later moved to San Rafael, where she lived up to the time of her death.

Besides her husband, David Morton, she leaves one son, John H. Sharkey, a brother George Cotton, of Rose Corner, N. H., and a sister, Sarah Rice of Mechanics Falls.
