HAROLD M. ENGLE
Harold M. Engle, founder of Engle and Engle Structural Engineers of San Rafael, died yesterday at a local hospital after a long illness.
A native of Ogden, Utah, Engle moved to Marin County in 1928 and was living in Ross at the time of his death. He was 79.
Engle, a consulting civil and structural engineer since 1926, retired in 1975 from the firm now operated by his son, Harold M. Engle Jr.
He received his bachelor of science degree in civil engineering in 1919 from the University of Nevada and did post graduate work from 1921 to 1922 in Stockholm, Sweden, as a fellow of the American Scandinavian Foundation.
Engle was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers; the Structural Engineers Association of California; the Consulting Engineers Association of California; the Seismological Society of America; the advisory board to the state Division of Architecture; and Masonic Lodge No. 191 of San Rafael.
He is survived by his wife, Claire Engle; a son, Harold M. Engle Jr. of Ross; a daughter, Mrs. Marion Smith; a sister, Mrs. Vivian Pearson; a brother, Glenn F. Engle; and five grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Keaton’s Mortuary, San Rafael. Burial will be private.
The family prefers memorial contributions to Sunny Hills, Sir Francis Drake Boulevard, San Anselmo.
