FRANZ FREY Dies After Short Illness
The hosts of friends of Franz Frey, for many years past the owner and manager of the firm of Frey & Company, were shocked to learn of his death last night from a cancer of the throat.
Up to a few days ago he was about the street and apparently in the best of health, although suffering from the effects of an operation, performed some time ago. Within the past week he was obliged to remain at home, with his condition growing worse until the end.
Frey had been among the prominent business men here for many years, con ducting a wholesale liquor and soft drink business. He was active in all movements for civic improvement and in fraternal circles. He was the first president of the San Rafael Lodge of Eagles and at the time of his death secretary of the Aerie. He was also the first president of the German lodge of Red Men. The deceased had resided in San Rafael 30 years.
The funeral will be held at 10 o’clock Saturday morning, with services, comprising the celebration of a requiem high mass at St. Raphael’s church. Burial, under the direction of the F. W. Sawyer Company, will be made in Mount Olivet cemetery. The deceased was 56 years of age. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Alice Frey.
