LYDA ANDREWS

A Requiem Mass for Lyda L. Andrews of Inverness Park – an avid outdoorswoman, gardener and musician – will be at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow at St. Columba’s Church, Inverness.

Miss Andrews, 80, died Friday in a local hospital after a short illness.

One of 13 children, she came to San Francisco from her native Harwich, England, when she was 2. She began living on and off in Inverness Park starting in 1908.

She worked for many years as a bookkeeper at various San Francisco businesses and also did knitting and crocheting work.

About 16 years ago, Miss Andrews moved permanently to a house on Portola Avenue in Inverness Park, where she maintained a large rose garden. She loved to take walks in Point Reyes National Seashore and read books on the outdoors and other subjects.

Friends knew her as a good conversationalist with a fine sense of humor who loved modern music, especially jazz. She was an accomplished pianist who often played for friends.

She is survived by a sister, Rose Goode of Harwich.
