Tribute Paid To Late Father Foley
A great gathering of reverent and sorrowing friends attended the impressive funeral services held Monday for the late Father Patrick A. Foley.
Dignitaries high in the councils of the church came to pay their tribute to the memory of a man who had won and held an honored position in their hearts and in the religious field in which he had labored with unremitting zeal for the past forty-five years.
With them came the men and women and children whose counselor he had been in times of stress and who had enjoyed with them the happier hours of life.
Religious faiths and creeds were forgotten in San Rafael with the passing of this good man, and St. Raphael’s Church held scores of men and women who perhaps had entered its doors for the first time on the occasion of this public testimonial of sorrow. The city and county officials occupied a reserved section during the ceremony, which comprised the celebration of a pontifical requiem mass by Archbishop Edward J. Hanna. Members of the clergy attended from many cities in the bay region.
The funeral cortege, on leaving the church, marched to E street on Fourth and crossed to Fifth, going then to the Union Depot, where entrainment was made for San Francisco and to Holy Cross cemetery, the final resting place of Father Foley.
