RAY BETTENCOURT
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Tuesday at St. Raphael’s Church in San Rafael for Raimundo (Ray) Bettencourt, 74-year-old longtime San Rafael resident who died unexpectedly Friday in a San Francisco hospital.
Bettencourt, 74, was a retired laborer and dairyman.
He was born in the Azores Islands and came to this country when he was about 16 years old. He had lived in the Los Banos and Santa Clara areas before moving permanently to Marin in 1941.
He was a dairyman in Marin before becoming a laborer in 1955, working for various firms including Ghilotti Brothers. He was a member of Laborers Union Local No. 291 of San Rafael.
Bettencourt also belonged to several Portuguese lodges, IDESI of Novato, IDESST of Sausalito and ISMM of Oakland.
He is survived by his wife, Mary of the family home in San Rafael; three sons, Raymond M., Louis M. and Arnold M. Bettencourt, all of Novato; and six grandchildren.
The rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. today at Keaton’s Mortuary in San Rafael. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
