High School Girl Meets Sad Death

Janice Deckelman, Tamalpais Union High School student, and pretty daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus Deckelman, of Baltimore Park, was fatally injured last Monday afternoon as she attempted to board a train at the station for her home.

The tragedy occurred in the midst of a throng of happy young folks who had finished their day at school and were planning an evening’s pastime.

As Miss Deckelman approached the train, it is reported by eye witnesses, she grasped an upright of the step with one hand, the other being engaged with her books. As the train moved she lost her balance and fell between two cars. The train was stopped immediately, but not until fatal injuries had been inflicted. Dr. Landrock, of Mill Valley was summoned and an automobile requisitioned to take the girl to the Hund Sanatarium. She passed away en route to the hospital, and the machine continued on to the F. E. Sawyer Company’s parlors.

Miss Deckelman was 14 years and 6 months of age and was one of the most popular students in the school. Her sisters, the Misses Virginia and Dorothy, have gained fame in music circles as vocalists and leading members of the Marin County Players.

A great gathering of deeply grieved friends assembled to attend the funeral services. A great bank of floral tributes from her sorrowing school mates and family friends, attested the esteem in which she was held.
